Exporing the World of Yarn on the Craft Yarn Council

If you’re fairly new at crocheting, you may have some questions about yarn weight, chart symbols, abbreviations and such.  I’ve been crocheting for almost 2 years now and I’m still clueless when it comes to certain things.  LOL

Well, today is your lucky day.  I’ve decided to take some time today to find out some basic information that we should all know at some point in our crochet/knitting adventures, plus some links to a few free patterns.

I’ve found all of these useful information through the website, Craft Yarn Council.  Through this site, you will find answers to yarn weights, crochet abbreviations, crochet symbols as well as, knitting abbreviations and knitting symbols.  They also explain how to read crochet and knitting patterns.  The Craft Yarn Council also offers some free patterns, classes to become a Certified Instructor and a bountiful of projects for any crocheter or knitter.

Double Stitch Twins Halter Top

If you’re looking for a free apparel pattern, here’s one that is offered at the Craft Yarn Council’s “I love yarn day“.  The Double Stitch Twins are twin designers, Erika and Monika Simmons who design crochet apparel.  They have really great designs and have been on numerous television shows and magazines.  I have personally used their pattern and it’s very easy to follow.

Frog Charming by Toni Rexroat

For a free toy pattern, I found Frog Charming by Toni Rexroat offered at the Craft Yarn Council as well.  Toni Rexroat is the editor of Crochet Me, and the former assistant editor of Interweave Crochet.

If you were a fan of Wheel of Fortune, you will recognize this celebrity personality.  Vanna White offers a free pattern for Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Mitered Diamond Throw.  She along with Lion Brand has raised and donated $1,000,000 to St. Jude Research Hospital based on her yarn line sold all over the world.
